Thing 5, 6, and 7

I did not finish the Flickr exercises. I will have to do them at home, which is even harder than doing them at work! Too many distractions, all the time. Taking care of my own pictures is on my list of things to do, so maybe I'll be able to do a lot of that together. I've printed out the instructions so I have all the suggestd links and ideas.

I'm grateful to know about the existence of all this--I helped a friend set up an account on Google Reader so she could look at her favorite news links, etc. However, most of this just doesn't fit into my life; at this time, anyway. After sitting at a computer a lot of the day doing what I do at work, after dealing with flesh and blood people's requests and situations, after problem solving in more ways than I ever thought possible, I want to go home and play in my garden!
Plus, it is hard enough to see the friends I have, to keep up our relationships, that keeping up with virtual friends is close to impossible.

I plan to at least look at all the 23 Things, try something in each of them. And again, this is a great exercise.

Thing 5 is beyond me

I found a picture on Flickr that I wanted to put on my blog, but I can not for the life of me figure out how to do it. Oh, wait a minute, I think I just got it. I see right here where to click, but now I don't want to do it, after reading about stealing other people's pictures. Never mind, I'll try the next part.

Thing 4: I've done enough!

This is pretty neat, and I'm going to spend some time at home visiting some sites to see if I want to add them to my reader. Even then, I'm not sure I'll check it every day, or spend much time reading what others have to say. I'm just not addicted to this type of information gathering. Maybe if I had a laptop and could get in a really comfortable chair, make some coffee, and put my feet up, I would enjoy reading everything I'll add to my list of subscriptions.

Many thanks to my fellow blogger for all your help!

Thing 3: Many questions answered

I didn't do a lot of searching for blogs, but at least I know how to do it! YAY! And if I ever want to dedicate part of my life to a blog, I know how to reach others, and how others can reach me.

I can also show someone.

Search engines are definitely different. I put the name Dean Winchester in the Technorati site and got very little. About.com gave me better results, mostly from Live Journal, which wasn't surprising to me as lots of media fan stuff goes on in Live Journal, including fan fiction. But very few blogs came up.

I may try more searching later, but I feel I need to move on to the next step.

Thing 2: Youtube

I can see why my son spends hours watching youtube videos. I watched Michael Wesch's The Machine is Us/ing Us, then I noticed links to others and watched A Vision of Students Today--an eyeopener, liked it better than the Machine is Us/ing Us! I also watched the Ethnography Project and wrote down the link to visit their site--later.

I figured I had watched enough. And I know I'm supposed to consider this participating and sharing and learning, but what goes through my mind after sitting in front the computer for a good length of time are erratic thoughts such as:
Am I getting radiated too much?
I'd better start that book order for patron requests
I'd better start dinner
I've been sitting too long, I need to move around, get some exercise
My plants need watering and I need to plant my tomato seeds
It's almost time to go work at the circulation desk

Thing 2: Trying to Get Down to Business

Honestly, I want to learn all that the 23 Things has to offer, and I hope to finish in the allotted time. I use very little of the Web in my personal life, other than email, but I realize I need to and should know what's out there. And, yes, maybe I'll learn to use some of it in my personal life!

I'm a fidgety person, can't sit still long, so I'll be doing everything in spurts.

I'm still now sure how to see what everyone writes. I do participate in Live Journal, where I can see what everyone writes each day. This seems to be very different and will take a little getting used to.

Thing 2: More questions than answers

I'd like to expand my profile and put in a picture like everyone else has, but I have no idea how to do it.

What is a coder?
What is authoritative and non-authoritative?
What is ILS?
Am I just not paying attention? Too many erratic thoughts?

I've only completed part of Thing 2; it's time to interact with people!
